Keighley precept to remain unchanged
9:44am Friday 3rd February 2012
Keighley town councillors voted last night not to increase the precept on ratepayers in the parish.
The management and staffing committee had recommended a 2.5 per cent rise, citing that additional cash was needed for the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations, the arrival of the Olympic Torch and for improving allotment security measures.
But the council’s finance committee argued against an increase, stating that there were sufficient funds in reserves and in its contingency fund.
Councillors voted by 12 to 10 to keep the precept at its current level.
The decision means the town council precept for 2012/13 will again amount to an annual charge of £24.30 for properties in the benchmark band D category.
