Luck finally turns against Silsden as they draw

Silsden 3, Congleton Town 3

The Cobbydalers rode their luck at times yesterday but ultimately earned a point from a home draw against mid-tables rivals Congleton Town to move up one place in the North West Counties League Premier Division.

Silsden snatched a two-goal lead against the run of play but were pegged back just before the break by their Cheshire visitors.

Congleton had made most of the running and created all the chances before the home side broke the deadlock in the 38th minute.

A breakaway move produced a cross from Jake McEneaney, and Danny Bryan forced the ball over the line from close range.

Former Thackley man Mike Garrod, making his debut for the Cobbydalers, made it 2-0 when he chipped the visitors’ keeper from the edge of the area.

The game turned again courtesy of a rapid brace for Town’s Shane Reaney.

He netted a fierce shot after a good run on the stroke of half-time and then pounced on a loose ball after a parried effort to net a 47th-minute equaliser.

Garrod put the home side back in front after Andy Lee had put Town’s keeper under pressure as he tried to deal with a backpass but the visitors bagged a 77th- minute leveller to earn a deserved share of the spoils when Andy Olsen netted a fortunate goal off the bar and the back of Silsden keeper James Mann’s hand.
